I am deeply committed to my community and people.<\/p>\n<p>There are about 1 million Maasai people living in Kenya and Tanzania. Inside of the Maasai region are popular tourist destinations, such as the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Maasai Mara, Amboseli, and Tarangire game reserves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>We have a great culture, heritage and wisdom that is slowly being eroded and diluted.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2>Informational Insights<\/h2>\n<p>Our tribe is famous for having retained many of our traditional ways, even as Kenya and Tanzania has become more modern and industrialized. However, holding on to customs and traditions is becoming increasingly difficult for our community. Regulations on land use prevent us from accessing water sources and pastures for us to maintain our traditional Maasai ways .<\/p>\n<p>Many additional factors continue to disrupt and encroach Maasai life:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>The introduction of western education<\/b><i>:<\/i>\u00a0has resulted in the herding of livestock becoming the parents' task. Young boys resume the responsibility, but only on weekends when schools are out.<\/li>\n<li><b>Climate change (global warming and increased droughts in East Africa):<\/b>\u00a0have resulted in a loss of cattle, smaller herds, and a lack of farming and food, causing many people to look for alternative work in\u00a0urban areas.<\/li>\n<li><b>Hunger and drought<\/b>: many Maasai rely on relief food and resources.<\/li>\n<li><b>Shortage of schools, classrooms, learning resources and teachers.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Shortage of water for farming.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Maasai tribal leadership (council of elders) are losing their power:\u00a0<\/b>because\u00a0of emerging and encroaching forms of western leadership and governance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11503 alignright\" src=\"\/\/pocketwisdominsights.com\/pwicolab\/wp-content\/uploads\/people\/maasai-michael2-224x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pocketwisdominsights.com\/pwicolab\/wp-content\/uploads\/people\/maasai-michael2-224x300.png 224w, https:\/\/pocketwisdominsights.com\/pwicolab\/wp-content\/uploads\/people\/maasai-michael2.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/b>Many Maasai members have moved out of our homeland and into urban areas, yet a good portion, like me and my family, continue holding on to our culture.\u00a0We are a community <strong>rich<\/strong> in two natural resources:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>The natural beauty of Africa: <\/strong>our lands and animals that call to people around the world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The cultural beauty of The Maasai People: <\/strong>our heritage, customs and relationship with nature.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Our riches are often overshadowed by our strife and our people often fail to communicate and share our culture with the world. Additionally, the world is often unable look beyond our traditional garments and poverty to see the real value, lessons and beauty of our culture.<\/p>\n<p><b>We are aware of the social, cultural and economic problems we face. As a community we\u00a0seek collaborative ways to change with the times while holding on to our culture.<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>The village which is not discussed is not built.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em>(Maasai Proverb)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>One head cannot hold all wisdom.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em>(Maasai Proverb)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>We as a\u00a0community are looking for a sustainable process that will:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Unite the community<\/strong>\u00a0<i>once again \u2013 bridging the gap between generations<\/i><\/li>\n<li><strong>Support the community<\/strong>\u00a0<i>economically, socially and educationally<\/i><\/li>\n<li><strong>Give the power back\u00a0<\/strong><i>to the community<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A solution to address our problem has been identified. Co-Labs provide the tools to support the community in assessing the feasibility of the project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The PWI Maasai Community Co-Lab<\/strong> will be implemented to drive a grassroots movement to empower the community.\u00a0Co-Lab implementation will enhance the other projects under-development and provide the Maasai community with resources to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Publish our wisdom, heritage and insight and share it with the world in the form of Apps.<\/li>\n<li>Communicate, teach and share our culture with the world via Online Discussions and Apps.<\/li>\n<li>Acquire grants and donations from government and businesses more easily.<\/li>\n<li>Boost the tourist industry.<\/li>\n<li>Provide business opportunities to Safari companies and local businesses.<\/li>\n<li>Improve the Maasai and Kenyan economy.<\/li>\n<li>Empower our community with self-sustainable solutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>We have a vibrant community of young and old, all looking for change and solutions. The Co-Lab will allow us to transcend our ideas into implementable solutions\u2026 empowering our people with the power to take back our culture and heritage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The platform requires seed funding (defined by the initial scope of the leaders), after which the Co-Lab becomes self-sustaining through built-in funding mechanisms, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A business outreach which brings practical life skills to businesses and employees in key areas of life, one being Travel and Recreation.<\/li>\n<li>When our Apps qualify to be featured in the business outreach, we can distribute the outreach to businesses, and in return, we get monetary donations, and thus we become self-sustaining.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">In simple terms, we buy from AwareComm for non-profit prices and we get full-price donations from businesses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Our Plan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Using the natural resources we have, we want to partner with AwareComm\u00ae to develop a Co-Lab... \u00a0<em><strong>To package the Maasai Tribe (using Apps) as an example of conservation and solidarity b<\/strong><strong>y marketing to\u00a0travel agents, businesses and tourists t<\/strong><strong>o promote tourism in Kenya.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The partnership allows for the project (Co-Lab) to become\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\"><strong>self-funding, self-perpetuating and self-regulating,\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>after the initial seed funding is invested. In other words the outcome of the project is a self-sustaining entity that runs like a business.\u00a0<\/em>AwareComm\u00ae\u00a0offers us a strategy, a business plan and a way to sustain the Co-Lab.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"tab-stops: 2.5in;\">Possibilities for Consideration: <strong>Getting Started<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We are not looking for money. We are seeking strategic partnerships with Kenyan-based non-profits (schools, churches, wild-life organizations).<\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0need consistent\u00a0online communication to get the <strong><em>PWI Maasai Community Co-Lab<\/em><\/strong> started!
