Democrat Joseph R. Biden Jr., sworn in on Wednesday as the nation\u2019s 46th president, has called for unity in America.<\/p>\n

Mike Rowe, the well-known host of \u201cDirty Jobs,\u201d \u201cSix Degrees with Mike Rowe,\u201d and \u201cReturning the Favor,\u201d has long advocated for common-sense, hands-on solutions to many problems in our country\u2014and he weighed in on the \u201cmacro\u201d plea for \u201cunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, I think of [John F.] Kennedy [and his famous line], \u2018Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country\u2019\u2026 I\u2019m saying that this is, \u2018Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what you can do for your neighbor.\u2019 It\u2019s our neighbors who are hurting,\u201d Rowe said on\u00a0\u201cFox News Primetime\u201d<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s our neighbors who are in trouble,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t know about \u2018unity.\u2019 I don\u2019t know about conformity. That\u2019s all macro thinking. This is micro thinking. This is real small. And I don\u2019t think we get out of this because of the government. We\u2019re not going to get out of it\u00a0without<\/em>\u00a0the government\u2014but the government can\u2019t possibly take care of what ails us right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is biblical,\u201d said Rowe. \u201cAnd I\u2019m not a religious guy, but a plague is a biblical thing \u2026 We\u2019re back on our heels as a people.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that the notion of moving forward\u2014of healing, of helping, of fixing our nation\u2014\u201cthis idea starts with our neighbors, and it starts in our zip code. There\u2019s something to that. If we\u2019re going to unify, it has to begin there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The idea of \u201cunity\u201d doesn\u2019t and won\u2019t magically appear overnight, Rowe also said.<\/p>\n

Rather, \u201cWe\u2019ve got to look for leaders\u00a0in places we typically don\u2019t\u00a0find them, and we have to look\u00a0for examples in places where we\u00a0don\u2019t expect to discover them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rowe oversees the\u00a0Mike Rowe WORKS Foundation<\/a>, which he started in 2008 to advocate for skilled labor in America. Skilled workers \u201ckeep our polite society humming along,\u201d he notes on the foundation\u2019s website. They find \u201copportunity where no one else [thinks] to look.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to reconnect the average American with the value of a skilled workforce,\u201d<\/strong> Rowe also says. \u201cOnly then will the next generation aspire to do the work at hand.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rowe is also the host of the hugely popular podcast,\u00a0\u201cThe Way I Heard It,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0as well as the author of a book based on it.<\/p>\n
