By 2027, 25% of Fortune 500 companies will actively recruit neurodiverse talent to improve business performance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Category No. 2: Businesses will get better at overcoming their worst traits<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>There is a rapidly growing need for more electricity to power computers.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/articles\/keep-ai-from-doing-more-climate-harm-than-good\">GenAI amplifies energy costs and availability<\/a>. By 2026, half of G20 members will experience monthly electricity rationing, turning energy-aware operations into either a competitive advantage or a major failure risk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GenAI can provide modernization plans, refactoring plans, testing and validation, and other capabilities to speed up modernization efforts.<\/strong> By 2027, GenAI tools will be used to explain legacy business applications and create appropriate replacements, reducing modernization costs by 70%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Supplementing the workforce with robots can help businesses grow, but this will expose the need to change business operations.<\/strong> By 2028, due to labor shortages, there will be more smart robots than frontline workers in manufacturing, retail and logistics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The rise of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/publications\/when-machines-become-customers\">machine workers and customers<\/a> is prompting a rethink of key business operations.<\/strong> Through 2026, 30% of large companies will have a dedicated business unit or sales channels to access fast-growing machine customer markets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a>\u25b6<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Category No. 3: New threats create new responsibilities and communities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>While GenAI brings a great deal of opportunity, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/articles\/what-it-takes-to-make-ai-safe-and-effective\">malinformation<\/a> is a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/articles\/how-to-manage-cybersecurity-threats-not-episodes\">threat vector<\/a>.<\/strong> By 2028, enterprise spend dedicated to battling it will surpass $30 billion, cannibalizing 10% of marketing and cybersecurity budgets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CEOs must empower a single responsible executive, such as the CISO, to tackle the challenge of malinformation across the organization.<\/strong> By 2027, 45% of CISOs\u2019 remits will expand beyond cybersecurity, due to increasing regulatory pressure and attack surface expansion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unions have historically pressured organizations and governments to protect people before companies.<\/strong> By 2028, motivated by the adoption of generative AI, unionization among knowledge workers will increase by 1,000%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The story behind the research<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/emt.gartnerweb.com\/ngw\/commonassets\/images\/vis-imagery\/icons\/sky\/icon-laptop-desktop-sky.png\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From the desk of&nbsp;Distinguished VP Analyst and Gartner Fellow Daryl Plummer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe existence of large language models (LLMs) covers a broad range of creative capabilities that keep building more excitement.
