Informational Insights
In order to examine what business is all about we need to consider three elements that make up Business:
- Management
- Employees
- Resources
“Managers are responsible for defining the direction of a company and for creating a culture in which the employees can effectively implement that direction, utilizing the resources available.”
There are three key functions of management. These are to manage:
- Resources
- Time
- Energy
Resources are managed as a result of positioning. When we manage resources effectively we have the right / necessary resources available to be used at the right the time. These resources can be skills employees, technologies, software, services and or products. The point in time when supply meets demand determines the time at which we can seize an opportunity to best utilize our resources. Lastly, the third function of management is energy. Energy is the power, drive and focus to make it things happen.
These three functions make up the management of business, and when businesses are managed effectively we see these principles filter down into the employee culture. Thus, an environment of followship-leadership is created within the business and an employee-owned culture becomes believable and achievable.
These principles are crucial and will continue to indispensable in the years ahead. As robotics takes over rote and automation tasks and jobs, the skills to manage resources, time and energy will become more invaluable.
