Possibilities for Consideration: Founding Principle
Freedom of religion was a principle reason that the United States was originally founded. It was a protection built into the Constitution. In fact, it was the very first amendment. It goes a little something like this:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
