According to Jim Collins, the author of Good to Great, there are five levels of leaders with Level 5 being the top tier.

Level 5 Executive — builds enduring greatness through a paradoxical blend of personal humility and professional will. Leaders who set direction; and supporting teams who build the bridges to achieve the destination.

Effective Leader — catalyzes commitment to and vigorous pursuit of a clear and compelling vision, stimulating higher performance standards.

Competent Manager — organizes people and resources toward the effective and efficient pursuit of predetermined objectives.

Contributing Team Member — contributes individual capabilities to the achievement of group objectives and works effectively with others in a group setting.

Highly Capable Individual — Makes productive contributions through talent, knowledge, skills, and good work habits.
However, even knowing these five levels of leadership, the question still remains… how does one capture the energy of the leader and transfer / communicate it to the hearts and minds of the followers?
When good men do great things (when supported by a team) the challenge of greatness is not only in the accomplishment of today, but also in bringing the virtues of today into tomorrow. This is called Legacy.
The visions of one man manifest into the fullness of possibilities. When the leader moves on, retires or passes on, the vision is often forgotten. Visions then turn into an event and the richness of the joy and enthusiasm cease. The benefits are left behind and only a memory struggles to remain.
How do we create and expand the legacy of great leader? By inviting the teams (followers) to participated and contributed to the manifestation of the dream (to become part of the actualization phase of creation), the process of creative expression of all individuals becomes a natural part of the flow of everyday life.
