The Co-Lab™ Research Institute Online Environment
Stronger Engagement is Key
Today’s online training/teaching systems must be more than a video chat with PowerPoint slides. We must evolve existing online environments to follow a methodology for responsible communication and raise Adaptive Intelligence (AdI™).
Raising AdI™ allows all participants to become empowered with a readiness for change and an ability to accept, adapt, and sustain change (assess-discern-implement and confirm).
Introducing The Co-Lab™ Research Institute Online Environment, a 5-Step Process that transforms the traditional procedure of education into purposeful learning for empowerment and real-world application.
Foundation to the Learning Process
There are 2 key foundation AdI™ Methodologies that are interactive and interdependent in the AdI™ 5-Step Learning Process:
- AdI™ 5 I’s - The Architecture of the Communication
- Johari's Window + The AdI™ 5th Window (understanding the other person) – The Strategy of the Communication
The AdI™ 5 I's
There are MANY INFLUENCES TODAY that can add to an audience’s bored, detached, distracted, apathetic, and disengaged perspective to learning and listening.
The 5 I’s is a principle-based process that engages a person in effective communication and offers the choice to join with another person for the purpose of discovery and connection.
The Johari Window + The AdI™ 5th Window
Understanding Your Audience
It is critical that you consider the basis of the mental process that all people go through when they hear you, think about what you said, and relate that to themselves.
The Johari Window provides a key to understanding the relationship that others have with us and to understanding their relationship with God.
Seek first to understand, then to be understood.

Keeping a Clean Team
Protecting the Original Content Author's Assets
Beyond creating a specialized learning environment, the AdI™ Learning Experience/Process focuses on the importance of intellectual content ownership and includes an architecture for those with an original idea/concept/service/etc. to maintain ownership of it as it evolves and expands. In this process, with each iteration of the originator’s idea/concept/service/etc., and as others add to it with their original ideas/concepts/services/etc., the original concept owner continues to receive credit.
A crunchy, munchy example: The originator of the concept of salad discovered lettuce and found that it was good to eat. It was chopped and placed in a bowl and eaten prior to the main course. This idea caught on and soon diners around the world were having a salad (bowl of chopped lettuce) before their main course. The originator of the concept received the credit and remained in the thoughts of those who ate their salads. Each time a salad was sold, a small percentage of the sale would go to the originator of salad in both recognition and compensation for the original thought.
That is… until the next person came along and added chopped carrots to the salad. All of a sudden, the originator is forgotten, and all the credit (and the royalties $$$) go to the one who added-on to the original concept.
Then the next person comes along and adds onions - $$. Then the next person comes along and adds black olives - $$. Then oil and vinegar is discovered and added $, then tomatoes $, then cheese $, then sunflower seeds $, and so on…
At this point nobody can remember who did what or why it was important, they just see the finished product and find value in it, but nobody receives any credit. Intellectual property is often stolen along with the credit and legacy of the original idea, not out of spite or malice, but because we forget to recognize the importance of the original idea, and even more important, where the original idea came from.
Enlightenment is not what we choose to shine the light on.
Enlightenment is the discovery of the source of the light.
RICHARD JORGENSEN, Ph.D. (hc)
What if the originator of salad (chopped lettuce in a bowl) could receive recognition each time a salad is enjoyed? What if each subsequent addition/improvement was tied to the person who had that original thought and applied it?
No single contributor will receive the full value from the whole and continuously evolving concept, as it is made up from the contributions of many, but each contributor continues to receive credit, recognition and all the associated rights of ownership for their piece of the whole. Not only does this create an architecture for equitable ownership, it establishes and preserves the legacy of each contributor and maintains a state of reverence in all for the originator.
Leveraged Marketing
In addition to protection for the content creator/author/service provider/etc., the Co-Lab™ infrastructure provides leveraged marketing and expansive distribution. This is to make the individual’s idea/product/etc. deliverable and scalable – going beyond their current architecture/infrastructure’s reach for marketing and distribution.
App-Ons™ are infused into the publishing aspect of the 5-Step Process and provide the means for individual retention of ownership and value while preserving recognition for an original thought and ensuring credit remains with each contributor for their addition to the whole.
Additionally, the Co-Lab™ provides the Architecture and infrastructure for cross-pollination across the many aspects of individual and organizational aspects of life, (7 E.A.R. categories, the major divisions of commerce, which are the primary aspects of a personal and organizational life (leveraged marketing)).
Everybody Shares in the Value
The SocraticQ™ is a tool for exercising Socratic conversation: what did you learn? And what was most important to you? And what additional thoughts did you have? Participants will be prompted to write a description of what they thought as a result of their experience. They then examine their thinking behind the thought.
All original content creators, app-on creators and readers who complete the SocraticQ™ benefit from their contributions to the whole.
Everybody, including the end-user (through Socratic conversation - SocraticQ™ and feedback), makes contributions in the process and become part-owner in the ever-evolving end-product.
Because the monitory value of this process is rooted in both individual insight and collective insight, the contributing content provider receives far more recognized value as a contributor to AdI™ then an independent writer (inverted long tail). The value of the content grows and that is reflected in the ownership of a share of the Co-Lab™ research center. The individual ownership level is proportionate to the contribution. It is a new form of remuneration in additional to the advantage to cross pollination and leveraged marketing.
With more end-user assessment, and the more in-depth the completed assessments are, the greater the contribution, thus the greater the reward points provided in return.
This application of leveraged marketing assures that content creators / authors / original ideas gain the ability to penetrate previously unreachable marketplaces.
For instance, if your published work is in the field of finance and its scope is the education of the next generation of asset managers, then finance is your marketplace. When the education and training of individuals in this field is accomplished through use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), or drones, then your published work has just penetrated another marketplace; as has that of the UAS focus.
This is just one example. The E.A.R. focuses on seven foundation community focus areas: Employment, Healthcare, Education, Financial, Travel/Rec., Legal, Legacy. See AwareComm’s open letter to Community Leaders.
This is cross pollination and all participants benefit, from the original idea creator, to the trainers, to the end-users who learn and apply the concepts and ideas. As cross pollination expands and participant buy-in increases (App-Ons™ & SocraticQ™) the overall value of the concept/idea and all its elements increases.
Applying the Value
The Co-Lab™ Research Institute online environment includes the AdI 5-Step Process. The process begins with Co-Lab™ participants getting discussion material prior to attending class and examining it. After examination and self-study, they attend a class to discuss their experience.
Sister Agnes from the Awach Parish recognized the significance of this process: "What impressed me most during [the] lesson was teacher's relationship with us. Learning the method you used was very good…The teaching, presentation and the methodology used were practical." (click to read Sister Agnes's letter to "Dr. Richard")
Throughout the 5-Step Process, facilitators utilize and integrate the 5 I's of Communication - Interest, Information, Imagination, Invitation, and Investigation. The 5 I's is how this 5-Step Process is applied. Facilitators are referred to as “Shepherds” and they have an integral role to play in this process.
The Shepherds are a key element to the Co-Facilitation team and are one of the elements necessary for this process. The Part of the shepherd’s responsibilities is to assist the participants. Shepherds assist the participants in expanding their objectivity and recognizing where they may have preconceived ideas (based on culture/upbringing/experience/etc.).
In addition to providing guidance through the 5-Step Process, Shepherds support the expansion of individual objectivity. Many people assume they know about what they see – know everything they need to know – “I already know”, or “I already learned enough…” and this is the hurdle in human nature of learning that must be overcome.
It’s not what you don’t know that’s the problem,
it’s what you do know that ain’t so that’s the problem.

Step 1: Pre-Assignment – If You Don’t Understand Why, You Will Not Comply
Participants always begin the process with the Pre-Assignment stage.
- Pre-Assignment – If you don’t understand why, you will not comply.
- Interest
- Information
- Imagination
As part of the Pre-Assignment stage, participants complete a Value-ation Assessment (baseline). This gives the instructor deep insight to the thinking nature of each participant prior to the Workshop. This is where an original thought (a diagram, a model, a technique, a strategy of how something works, etc. and its parameters) is presented and the stage is set for participants to wrap their heads around it.
Next the Facilitator/Shepherd works to blend the 5 I’s into the original thought being presented. This empowers the both the facilitator and the end-user with the ability to collaborate around the same concept/thought/idea/etc. and effectively communicate intentions and individual creativity.
5 I’s are the foundation of the 5-Step learning process, they are the melody of a song that carries the message and story throughout the process.
Participants are presented a thought and then presented the thinking behind the thought with its depth and breadth so they can explore the thinking behind the thought, then explore their own thinking behind the thought and what created the thought. They will begin to think about the thinking that created the thought, as well as their own thoughts.
Participants then receive an Application eMod™ introducing the key concepts to be discussed. This sets the stage for purposeful learning and strengthens metacognition.
Participants examine their thoughts and thinking process using the 5 I’s to determine what they will present to the collective collaborative group and to determine how they will present it.
Participants bring this information to their first interactive workshop to learn even more about what they experienced and gain new insights, all while contributing the insights they gained to the collective learning environment.
Step 2: Online Workshop – Demonstration (Instructor and Students)
- Online Workshop – Demonstration (Instructor and Students)
- Application and Acceptance (AdI™)
- Information
- Imagination
- Invitation
As part of the Online Workshop, a facilitator/instructor will review the definition of the problem and present the cause and effect of different answers through principles, models, videos, and storytelling so participants can relate.
Next, the participants will re-examine the material using the new insight found from the facilitated discussion in the Online Workshop and, as a result, will develop new ideas on the subject. Content presented will be added to the Application eMod™(automatically updated for all participants) as a living memorial to the event.
Step 3: Post Assignment – Share, Assess & Apply feedback
- Post Assignment – Share, Assess & Apply feedback
- Assess and Apply
- Investigation
- Exploring what was important to participant
- Exploring the specific principles and concepts taught and how they apply in life and vocation
After the workshop, the participant completes Socratic conversations (SocraticQ™) via the Assess and Apply exercise. Socratic conversation is a scientific examination of the real and whole problem, the complementary answer(s), and a whole solution.
Participants will answer the question: What did you hear and what did you learn, from:
- the facilitation (what did you hear, what did you learn)
- the other team members (what did you hear, what did you learn)
…and what was most important to you?
Participants will use the 5 I’s to assess:
- how others responded to their ideas
- how they responded to others’ ideas
- what conclusions they reached about the interaction
Additionally, participants retake the Value-ation Assessment to validate the results and contribute to sentience-based evidence (research).
Co-Lab™ participants are then urged to share their new ideas in the form of App-Ons™. Creating an App-On™ is how participants apply new understanding, develop new thoughts, apply existing Dynamic Relational Models™ (and create new ones) and investigate how it was all applied through Socratic conversation.
The importance of this part of the process is that participants begin to examine those around them to learn to see what is said as well as what is not said so they begin to recognize Adaptive Resistance (AdR™). Once they learn how to spot AdR™ and learn to see what people’s true intent is, not just what they say, then they cease to get blindsided by other’s anger, dishonesty, and resistance.
Life is not about the conclusions we come to,
but about the ongoing conclusion assessment and discoveries of reality
based upon cause and effect.

Step 4: Participant Publishing – Attend App-On™ workshop
- Participant Publishing – Attend App-On™ workshop
- Story Within - eMod™ video
- App-On™ Development - Transferrable & Scalable
- Investigation /Confirmation – to re-enforce Courage
Participants attend a series of App-On™ workshops and learn how to take their accumulated multiple pre and post assignments to develop an App-On™ to the original content. Additionally, writing and expressing about how they applied the concept/product/service/insight in their lives.
They learn content integration skills, technical skills, fundamental writing skills (to name a few) and have the opportunity to apply the 5 I’s within their App-On™.
Participants then publish eMod App-Ons™ which provides an opportunity for reflection, expression and application of what they learned. Resulting pride and personal ownership lead to a destination of clarity and conviction.
Creating an App-On™ is how participants apply new understanding, develop new thoughts, apply existing Dynamic Relational Models™ (and create new ones) and investigate how it was all applied through Socratic conversation. Socratic conversation is a scientific examination of the real and whole problem, the complementary answer(s), and a whole
This process allows us go from Right Brain (visualization & models) to Left Brain (logic) to Hypothalamus (spirituality and imagination) to the Cerebral Cortex (creativity).
The participant is guided and given feedback as they develop their App-On™ and submits it for final approval and publishing. Upon publishing, the participant has the experience of the acceptance of their ideas and begin to form courage and self-confidence for the next step.
Participants then publish eMod App-Ons™ which provides an opportunity for reflection, expression, and application of what they learned. Resulting pride and personal ownership lead to a destination of clarity and conviction.
Up to this point in the process, each participant/learner/contributor has added their own concept/product/service/insight as an App-On™ to the original idea and has become part-owner. Remember the salad story?
Step 5: Entrepreneurial Career Development – Co-facilitate Workshops with App-Ons™
- Entrepreneurial Career Development – Co-facilitate Workshops with App-Ons™
- AdI™ Workshops
- Investigation
- Exploring the specific principles and concepts taught and how they apply to one’s vocation
- Published App-On™ demonstrates to organization current skills and interest
Individuals presents their App-Ons™ and in the process continue to build the skills of clear thinking, community, application of the concepts, cumulative insights and application thus increasing the value of the original concept.
They gain recognition of their contribution to the org concept and content – they get feedback on their insight to grow and expand it.
The individual’s skill and understanding, as well as the value of the content/idea/process/etc., all grow in depth and breadth. The individual grows in value to organizations and the content/idea/process/etc. grows in intrinsic value to all. This is the culmination of multiple sources of creativity, knowledge, insight, and legacy.
eMod App-Ons™ serve as participant skill credentials and allow Human Resources (HR) to match individuals to existing organizational cultures (departments). HR develops the ability to evaluate their existing teams and gains deeper insight into the skillset and placement of new employees.
Oftentimes HR departments will have initiated this process into their existing training programs to ensure outside people come in pretrained and culturally acclimated – automatic cultural integration. This enables social organizations (i.e. churches) to perform training that automatically blends the new participant with the culture of the receiving organization.
For example: If you are joining a group where everyone wears red hats then you will get your red hat before you even show up to that group and you will learn how to wear it, and why – so that you naturally fit in. This seamless integration avoids unnecessarily burdening the group (culture shock) and eliminates newcomer fear of rejection while accelerating and elevating group acceptance.
Career Development Cont. – As part of the commitment to responsible and effective online communication, the AdI™ Publishing System processes are measured, monitored and assessed to provide feedback for both achievement and challenges. This process supports management and individuals with the necessary insight to identify and correct hidden challenges while creating a complementary pathway to sustainable solutions.
